Three levels.
You are at the third.
Significant wealth deserves a private wealth practice.
When a concentrated position converts, the work shifts from equity decisions to managing the assets themselves. Augustus Private Wealth gives high-net-worth shareholders the Level 3 resources to do exactly that: active portfolio management, built and run on your behalf.
This is investment management at the center, with institutional lending, tax strategy, estate coordination, and private markets assembled around it. Not a one-time plan. A practice that manages the portfolio every quarter, for decades. The system that runs it is the Wealth Engine.
An open platform.
Not a closed shop.
The largest private banks lend you the money, sell you their own products, and staff your trust with their own people, earning on every layer. We assemble best-in-class institutional resources around you and manage them as one practice. Same capabilities. Opposite incentive. Our only compensation is our advisory fee, so our interest is aligned with one outcome: yours.
| The wirehouse / private bank | Augustus Private Wealth | |
|---|---|---|
| Incentive | Earns on lending, products, and trust layers | Earns only the advisory fee |
| Products | Often proprietary; conflicts built in | Open architecture, selected on merit |
| Portfolio | Often one model sold to many | The Wealth Engine, built to your plan |
| Focus | Generalist private-wealth model | Concentrated equity and pre-IPO |
| Your advisor | May rotate; tied to the institution | A direct, continuous relationship |
| Fee posture | Tied to keeping production high | Scales down as the relationship deepens |
A fee that rewards the whole relationship. This is alignment, not discounting.
Because we are fee-only and hold no products, we price the entire relationship rather than charge separately for each piece. As the relationship deepens, your advisory fee scales down at defined thresholds. We would rather build one deep, long-term relationship priced fairly than extract the maximum fee from a shallow one.
A stable core.
Satellites that drive return.
A core and satellite portfolio. The core captures the market at low cost. The satellites are the actively managed alpha driver, positioned to the conditions in front of us.
The all-weather base
Low-cost, passive, broadly diversified index exposure. Built to be held through every market environment with minimal cost and minimal turnover. For most portfolios it is the largest single allocation, doing the quiet work of capturing long-term market returns without leaking value to fees.
One shareholder.
Worker to Investor, in motion.
A hypothetical composite. Total comp around $1.5M, mostly equity, heavily concentrated in one company. Watch the concentrated position come down on a plan while the asset base climbs in parallel, built to grow and produce income without their time.
Vesting and exercising, on the tax calendar
RSUs vest twice a year and are taxed as ordinary income on the spot, with withholding that falls far short of the real rate. ISOs get exercised in batches sized to stay inside the AMT-free zone, never all at once. The first job is not selling. It is knowing exactly what is coming and pre-funding the tax before it arrives.
The target is not a rule of thumb.
Traditional advice says trim any single position above 10%. We set the target deliberately, to conviction, tax position, and how close critical mass is, often a band like 30 to 40%, not a generic line. The point of Level 3 is not to obey a rule. It is to divest down to the spot that is right for this shareholder, then manage the asset base so it carries the load.
When does work become optional?
Drag the inputs. Watch the moment your asset base, on its own, covers the way you live. We call that crossover critical mass.
Past that crossover, the math changes. Additional appreciation is welcome but no longer necessary. Protecting what you have built matters more than maximizing what you might gain. Knowing exactly where that line sits, and managing the portfolio to reach it and then defend it, is the central task of Level 3.
What we manage,
quarter after quarter.
Level 3 is a full ongoing relationship, not a one-time plan. The areas of work, coordinated under one strategy.
Portfolio management
Building and maintaining the Wealth Engine: the low-cost core, the actively managed satellites, allocation across time horizons, and disciplined rebalancing as markets move.
Investor-level tax planning
Managing capital gains recognition across years, tax-loss harvesting, lot-level selection, asset location, and charitable giving through donor-advised funds.
Diversification on a schedule
Converting concentrated positions into the diversified base systematically, on a pre-defined plan rather than an emotional reaction to the stock price.
Liquidity without selling
Institutional securities-based lending lets you access cash against the portfolio rather than sell into a tax event. The position keeps working, the long-term thesis stays intact, and liquidity arrives without resetting your cost basis.
Borrow-versus-return strategy
When the spread between your borrowing cost and a position's expected return justifies it, borrowing can be the more efficient move than selling. We model that spread deliberately, so leverage is a calculated tool, never a default.
Fast-track lending access
Expedited access to institutional lending facilities, structured to move at the speed of the opportunity. White-glove underwriting that skips the bureaucratic drag of retail bank approval when timing matters.
Asset protection
Titling, entity structure, and insurance coordinated so significant wealth is held in the right hands and shielded from avoidable exposure. Protecting what you have built is its own discipline, distinct from growing it.
Estate and legacy structure
Coordinating estate and trust attorneys so the portfolio sits inside the right structures for wealth transfer, alongside Roth conversion strategy where it fits.
Critical mass monitoring
Tracking where you stand against your number, and shifting the portfolio from growth toward preservation as you approach and cross it.
Your equity built this far.
Strategy protects what comes next.
If your equity has converted, or is about to, and you do not yet have a system for managing what comes after, that is the conversation to have now. Not at IPO. Not during lockup. Now.
